As you soak in the beauty and chaos of Freetown, you will start pondering how to explore the city. Start off with the iconic Cotton Tree, which is a significant landmark for the country. History has it recorded that freed slaves walked from the beach towards the tree, named the city ‘Freetown’ and prayed for their freedom as well as their return to Africa. Now Sierra Leone has the Cotton Tree even on one of its monetary notes. In between spending your days marvelling at wonderful Freetown, take a trip down to River Number Two beach, located on the peninsula. Its sandy beaches, clear waters and lush hills as the backdrop.
