
Nigeria Cultural Parade
The 1st Nigeria Cultural Parade was held in downtown Houston Texas and attended by Nigerian Americans and friends of Nigeria in celebration of Nigeria’s 57th Independence. Hosted by Culturally Naija and WeLead, the event was held on 1510 Polk Street near the Toyota Center from 8:30 AM to 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 30, 2017. The parade was made possible in part through the City of Houston Initiative Grant.
Traditional and tribal dancers from the Igwe Cultural Entertainment Group, and contemporary dancers from Afro Fusion and Prairie View – African Student Association – performed to the delight of bystanders. Traditional attire were worn by various groups such as the Akwa Ibom Association, Umu Igbo Unite. Organizations in attendance included Nigerians in Diaspora Organization, The Esteemed Woman Organization, Igbo Progressive Union, Enugu Provincial Union, Mercy Seat House, Cafe Abuja, among others.
